Kwara ALGON Condemns Police Alleged Indictment of Saraki, Ahmed
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), kwara State chapter has risen to sternly condemn the purported linkage of the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and the state governor, Alh. Dr. AbdulFatah Ahmed with cultists’ activities in the state and Offa bank robbery.
Rising from a meeting held on Monday, June 4, 2018, the 16 Local Government Council Chairmen utterly frown at the level the Nigeria Police Force is politicising the Offa bank robbery and treacherous nature with which the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Doris, is using the incidence to toughen the image and integrity of the Senate President.
It is quite unheard-of and unthinkable that the person of the Senate President, who has been in the vanguard of exterminating cultism and robbery in the country since his days as governor, will now be aiding and abetting cultism and criminality in his exalted position as the No. 3 citizen of the country.
Mr. Inspector General of Police should not debase the Police Force. It is advisable for him to focus on professionalising the Police in a manner that would make his men able to rise to the challenges of providing security for the people, intelligently, in accordance with global best practices.
The information being maliciously peddled around is not in the best interest of the country, as it could have negative effect on the growth of democratic culture and image of the police itself as a noble security agency.
As things are, the Inspector General of Police seems hell-bent in ruddishing the National Assembly under the leadership of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki after failing to respond to the lawmakers’ invitation positively.
Understandably, the actions and steps taken by the hierarchy of the Police in the first instance have shown that there were hidden plots to portray the persons of the Senate President and the State Governor in bad light, which they had reacted to much earlier.
However, that seems not enough to prevent the police hierarchy from going after them.
We therefore urge President Muhammad Buhari to call the Inspector General of Police to order, and make him respect the legislative arm of government. Mr. President should warn him against politicising the job of policing and enforcing the law.
We outrightly condemned their linkage with cultism, robbery or any form of criminality without mincing words because Dr. Saraki and Governor Ahmed are personalities with high standing in public service. They are no doubt reputed for decency, industry, hardwork and innovative service delivery.
It is quite pertinent to call on the Police hierarchy to leave them alone and let them focus on delivering on their mandate for the good of the people.
