With all indications and events unfolding after the distinguished president of the 8th Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki was dragged to Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) in a bid to soil his political credentials which he has built over the year with great passion for humanitarian services; every reasonable Kwaran who fathoms the game of politics would have comprehended that the ulterior motive of this politically orchestrated egocentric plan is to demote Kwara State among its colleagues in the realm of Nigeria politics.
Basically, the entire Nigerians know how All Progressives Congress emanated. It was the merger of some parties including the then New PDP that gave birth to APC. As at the time Saraki and his colleagues joined APC, all the APC chieftains could not hide their ecstasy, because it made the party stronger and stood more favourable to winning 2015 presidential election.
Kwara State was created by Gen. Yakubu Gowon in 1967 amidst power tussle between Gen. Odumegwu Ojukwu and him. Since the State was created its voice was not heard at the federal level until Gen. Tunde Idiagbon became the second in command to Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo in 1976 after the death of Gen Murtala Muhammed on the 13th of February, 1976. In the history of Nigeria’s democratic rule till 2015, the highest political post that came to Kwara State was Senate Leader which was clinched by Dr.Olusola Saraki from National Party of Nigeria (NPN), in the Second Republic, against all odds.
However, the whole Nigerians knew how the late Saraki financially supported all the parties in which found himself as a member; the political situations, interests, and calculations which erupted made him dropped his ambitions in most cases, most especially presidency ambition. While he was sacrificing and Kwara State continued to be at bottom of political ladder, nobody raised eyebrows.
Fortunately for us in Kwara State, Bukola Saraki immensely contributed to the success of APC in the 2015 general elections and Allah rewarded Kwara State with the position of number three seat (President of the Senate). To my dismay, some selfish APC chieftains whose contributions to the success APC did not in any way outweigh that of Saraki; who never wanted the voice of Kwara heard at the Federal Level dragged him to CCT in a bid to ruin his political clout which is mysteriously waxing stronger every second. Is Saraki the only former governor in the house of senate? Why was he dragged to CCT few days after he became Senate president? Should CCT be used as an instrument to which hunt Saraki, a politician who believes in fairness, justice, equity and freedom for all?
My good people of Kwara State, Bukola’s victory as the president of the senate is a success for entire Kwarans. Let us repel against any plan to remove our golden son from the most coveted seat in the Red Chamber by any politicians, either within or outside our State of Harmony.
