As against the rumour being spread by the enemies of Kwara state that one of the leading pharmaceutical industries in Nigeria, Tuyil Pharmacy, has relocated from Kwara State owing to a high taxes by Kwara state government, here is the response of the Kwara Internal Revenue Service’s Director of Administration and Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Adenike Babajamu to the rumoured exit of not only Tuyil Pharmaceutical Company but also Coca-cola Company.
“With due respect and to set the records straight. We must as a matter of fact verify rumors and confirm the source of all information. I work with the new Revenue Agency and I want to confirm in very strong language that No new Tax has been imposed on Tuyil nor any corporate body in KWARA State. We have a very cordial relationship with the MD Tuyil Pharmaceutical Industry and if you visit the Company office, you will see new structures under construction. A company leaving town because of tax burden will not invest in the same company. Please visit our website www.kw-Irs.com for details of our activities.
As for Coca-Cola leaving town because of tax, this also is false.
The objectives of the KW-IRS is clearly spelt out by our vision which is “to mobilize revenue for the Strategic Development of Kwara State”.
Yes I agree that we had and still have unresolved issues in the state but must we continue to watch? The answer is NO. Our mandate is to stimulate voluntary compliance and block all leakages which were peculiar to previous tax collection process. This, we started earlier this year and I make bold to say that we have in the first six months made progress.
The effect? Maybe not as fast as everyone would want but in a short while, will be seen by all. A few days from now, contractors will be returning to sites on all pending projects. The Roads? We started on Tanke road last Saturday. Just last month the new Infrastructure Committee was inaugurated. And IGR will begin to fund infrastructure development in the state.
Let’s believe in our State and believe in the Change process by first being the change that we want to see.”
