@Kwaragovt – We Don’t Owe Pensioners N14b Gratuity

The Kwara State Government regards as misleading the headline of the story published by the Punch Newspapers on Tuesday 2nd August, 2016 titled: “Kwara Owes Pensioners N14bn gratuity- NULGE”.

For clarity, the Kwara state government does not owe it pensioners N14b gratuity as the body of the story rightly refers to local government workers.

Also, the Kwara State government is up to date in payment to state civil servants and pensioners.

Local government councils in the state, which receive separate allocations from the federal government, are responsible for the said pensioners and have varying degrees of staff and pension arrears.

However, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is currently working with local government chairmen in the state to help resolve the salary arrears as soon as possible.

Although the LG pension and salary delays are unfortunate and painful, the issue is reflective of the financial situation currently confronting the country.
