Speech By Honourable Segilola Abdulkadri On The Occasion Of The Commissioning Of Refurbished Magaji Ngeri Basic Health Center Eruda
Tittle: Maternal Mortality Reduction
It gives me immense pleasure to stand here before you and to welcome you all to this very important occasion of the official commissioning of the refurbished Magaji Ngeri Basic Health Center, Ilorin.
It is another milestone which highlights the resolve of my commitment to ensure the provision of cost effective, quality health care as close to the good people of my community (Magaji Ngeri), in a clean and serene environment.
The provision of sustainable refurbished infrastructure is just but one facet through which this goal can be attained.
Quality of the healthcare service is a matter of interest to everyone at some point in their lives.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The refurbished health center consists of Maternity Ward, Labour Room, Family Planning Unit, Newborn Care Services and modern hospital equipment.
When I visited this hospital, I was moved by the precarious healthcare delivery services I met and the number of indigenes and residents who were yearning for qualitative medical care.
More reason I decided to take the bull by the horn to embark on the comprehensive renovation and supply of modern equipment to this health center and it is a thing of joy that this feat is being achieved today.
I must commend the administration of His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulfatah Ahmed, for his resolve to upgrade the health infrastructural facilities and improve health care delivery in the state.
I wish to reiterate the commitment of this administration to giving quality health care to the good people of Kwara state.
I call on public and private sectors to join hands with the government in providing good health care services to the people of the state, at the same time, no matter how much money you have, it will never be enough if you don’t spend more to the course of humanity.
The major objective of this project is to ensure a safe delivery and utilization of quality Newborn Care Services in Magaji Ngeri, a vital intervention towards accelerating maternal mortality reduction in Kwara State.
The newly refurbished maternity ward is equipped with the requisite operational and organizational capacity so that they are fully prepared to receive and treat women with critical obstetrics complications. And I believe with the presence of the Ilorin West Local Chairman, Alhaji. Tajudeen Sulu Oloje, Magaji Ngeri Basic Health Center will be upgraded to fully functional Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care Centres (CEmONC) so that emergency cases relating to pregnancy, delivery and childbirth can be promptly and adequately attended to. ( Sir, this is an appeal on behalf of my constituents to the Local Government).
With this renovation, Magaji Ngeri Basic Health Center has joined the league of health centers with modern state-of-the-art equipment and facilities in Kwara State.
I started by pointing out how the quality of the healthcare service is a matter of interest to everyone at some point in their lives. A reformed health service providing universal healthcare is not impossible. Its just needs to be approached with determination, over a sensible period of time and on the basis of a realistic vision.
Years to come, with a political mandate behind it and a strong stable economy to finance it, I believe we have a new opportunity to do more for our people and humanity in general.
Thank you all and God bless.
