Gov Ahmed justifies dissolution of 16 LG Councils

Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed of Kwara on Tuesday said he dissolved the 16 Local Government councils in the state following their inability to meet their statutory responsibility to the electorate.
The Governor justified the councils dissolution in his message to the state House of assembly informing the Legislature of formal dissolution of the councils.
The Governor in his message read by the Deputy Speaker, Mathew Okedare who presided over Tuesday plenary said all the 16 councils failed in their responsibility in the last year.
Ahmed noted that the councils failed to execute any meaningful projects in the last three years and unable to pay Workers salary for months.
“I took this step following sustained complains by the residents of the of poor performance of the Local councils in discharging theie statutory functions”, he said.
Alhaji Ahmed informed the House of his intention to appoint caretaker Committees to run the affairs of the councils.
