Kwara Civil Servants and Pensioners to Be Paid Thursday

State civil servants and pensioners will as from tomorrow (Thursday) start receiving their salaries and entitlements for the month of January, 2017.

The State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed this evening directed that salaries and pensions be paid immediately following the receipt of statutory allocation and Value Added Tax (VAT) components of federal allocation by the Kwara State government.
A Government House statement said the move signals a gradual return to the pre-recession procedure in the state when workers and pensioners were paid on the 26th of each month.

The statement quoted the State Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu as saying that the sum of N531.6m was released for the payment of civil servants’ salaries, N516.6m for the payment of Senior Secondary School teachers’ salaries and N476m for the payment of pensions.
The  government disclosed that an additional N150m was released for the payment of gratuity, and another N177m was also released for the payment of subventions to some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State.
The Commissioner was quoted as saying that the remaining MDAs will be paid once the other components of the January allocation from the Federal Government are released to the State government.
The Government House Statement added that this move is consistent with the Kwara State government’s announcement, released last week via its Facebook page, that elements of federal allocation are received in instalments.
It noted that despite the fact that allocation has not been received in full, Governor Ahmed ordered that the funds should be released as they are come.
