Recession: Kwara Speaker tasks FG, NACCIMA on ‘battered’ economy
Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Ahmad has challenged the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) to collaborate with the Federal, State and Local Governments in order to reconstruct the economy.
He said when such synergy is formed, solutions would be found to resuscitate the moribund industries while employment would be provided under Public, Private Partnership (PPP) for the teeming unemployed Nigerians.
According to the Speaker’s Special Assistant on Media, Shuaib Abdulkadir, Ahmad made the call in his address at the official investiture of Alhaji Ahmed Raji as the President, Kwara Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture in Ilorin on Thursday.
Emphasising the roles of private sector, which he stated adds more value to economy of both states and the nation at large, he further enjoined the association to think outside the box so as to bail the nation out of recession.
Ahmad commended Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for providing KWACCIMA with land as its permanent Trade Fair Ground, adding that the effort would in turn form the basis upon which the association and government would jointly drive Kwara economy to a lofty height.
The speaker also assured that the state House of Assembly remains a genuine partner in the drive to move Kwara State forward, especially in the promotion of economic development and in raising the standard of living across all spectrum of the state’s human capital assets.
He disclosed that as part of the legislature’s contribution to accelerate the state economic development, particularly in the agricultural sector, the Kwara State House of Assembly has acquired 310 hectares of farmland for farming.
This, Ahmad said , is to further demonstrate to Kwarans that agriculture remained the surest avenue for economic re-engineering and take Nigeria out of the present economic challenges.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Ahmed Raji who appreciated the members for their trust in him pledged to do everything possible to revolutionise the state business environment.
Raji further pledged to work hard with other executive members to ensure that KWACCIMA punched its weight on the national stage with the ability to shape its future through facilitating local business environment that would encourage growth and enterprise.
