The Aboto Oja community in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State has hailed the choice of Hajia Risikat Opakunle as chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 18, 2017 local government election in the state.
Some leaders of the community, who reacted to the emergence of Hajia Opakunle, a one-time Special Assistant to former Governor of the state, as flag-bearer of the ruling party in the forthcoming council polls, said the consensus arrangement through which she emerged was the best for crisis-free political process.
In his reaction, the Alaboto of Aboto-Oja, Mallam Kasali Yakubu, said the community was not in doubt about the antecedent of the APC chairmanship flag-bearer, saying her record as a political office holder showed that she is worthy ambassador of the people.
“We are not surprised by the choice of Hajia Risikat Opakunle as the candidate of the APC in the local government election around the corner. Checking through her record when she served as Special Assistant on Women Affairs in the State, she proved herself as a reliable, dependable and loyal personality.
“Unlike what some others would do, she did not abuse opportunity provided by her office to amass wealth to the detriment of those she was meant to cater for. She performed excellently and we thank Almighty Allah she is the choosing one this time around.
“Let me on behalf of Aboto Oja community thank the Senate President Bukola Saraki, APC stalwarts in the state and Asa local government in particular for rallying round our daughter.
“We want to assure you that Hajia Risikat Opakunle would deliver as promised and would not disappoint you. There is no amount of appreciation that is too much but in all, we thank you immensely for supporting her. The process through which she emerged was good and should be used to avoid crisis in the polity”, Alaboto-Oja said.
Another community leader, Alhaji Kareem Alaro Sholadoye Aboto, commended the leadership of the APC for ensuring equity, justice and fair play in the process leading to the selection of Hajia Opakunle.
He assured that the community would continue to support the political structure of Saraki, which has given politics of the state a face lift by making it the best ever in the country.
Sholadoye urged politicians in the country to emulate the leadership style of APC leader in the state in order to ensure understanding, peace and unity among the political class.
