The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kwara State has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of Saturday’s local government elections in the State.
The APC won all the 16 chairmanship seats in the local government election. Out of 193 councillorship positions, the APC also won 184 councillorship seats while the opposition Peoples Democratic Party won 9 councillorship seats.
In a statement issued by the party’s publicity secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, the party described the election as largely peaceful and satisfactory.
We wish to commend members of our party and the people of Kwara State for conducting themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner during the just-concluded council election.
The massive victory recorded by the APC across the 16 council areas of Kwara State will spur and motivate the APC to work harder and ensure improved delivery of dividends of democracy to the people of Kwara State.
While felicitating with the newly-elected council chairmen and councillors, the APC urged party members to celebrate and jubilate with measured moderation.
The party, however, questioned the inability of security agencies to either forestall or curtail the violent activities of the gang of political thugs that was reportedly coordinated and mobilised by the Peoples Democratic Party chairmanship candidate in Ilorin West local government, Mr Musibau Esinrogunjo.
The riotous syndicate snatched ballot boxes in many polling units and perpetrated other forms of electoral malpractices.
The party, therefore, calls for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the syndicate and its sponsor.
