Nigeria needs restructuring to strengthen public institutions — Gov Ahmed

Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has said that the glamour for restructuring of the country was a genuine one that would strengthen public institutions to live up to expectations.
He said people had the tendency of falling back on their tribes and religions because the center has not given them the desired justice and equal opportunity. Similarly, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, also stated that Nigeria needed courageous leaders who would not be afraid to say and stand by the truth at all times. Both leaders spoke at the fifth anniversary lecture series in honour of late Senator Abubakar Olusola Saraki organised by the Northern Union in Abuja yesterday. This year’s lecture came with the theme, “National Unity And Future of Nigeria”. Eulogizing the late Saraki, Governor Ahmed said he lived preaching peace and unity among the people of Nigeria. Governor Ahmed, who noted that added that politics should be about leadership and not selfishness, said: “Through Saraki’s wealth of experiences, some of us have been able to undergo political tutelage to develop a political career. ‘’We are happy that he has passed on and still lives on because he stood for certain values, one of which forms the theme of today’s activity which is national unity and the future of Nigeria. “For those of us who are close to him, and took time to go through his political tutelage, we understood that politics was beyond just wanting to be seen, but about service to the people. That is one thing we need to take Nigeria back to. In his remarks, Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, while thanking the organizers of the event, said his later father played an all-inclusive politics where he cultivated the culture of generosity. He said: “With great humility and honour, I want to say that it is a great joy to see all our fathers here who are colleagues and friends of my father. I am happy to see you in good health and very active. ‘’They say that in life, it is not what you do or say that matters but this show of singular love and affection. It is really appreciated. “Those of us that know Northern Union will believe that to him, the union was so important. He believed in it strongly. For us who grew up under him, I will say that one of the things we learned from him was that his life was about giving. He had no limit to what you call giving. “Given that he is not just materialistic, given his kindness, given affection and style, some of us who had been around him will believe that with all humility no politician is above him in giving out everything. ‘’He gave everything in the interest of helping people. I think that that is a message all of us must continue to learn.”
