Kaiama- Kisi Road Project: Kwara Assembly Praises Saraki… frowns at Slow Pace of Work

The hierarchy of the Kwara State House of Assembly is to meet with the State Governor, Alhaji Abdul Fatah Ahmed on the need to mobilize contractors handling the remaining 2 sections of the ongoing multi billion naira Kaiama- Kisi road project to fast track its completion.

The Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad gave the indication during inspection of the ongoing road project.

Dr Ahmad represented by his Deputy, Elder Mathew Okedare, expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work on the road project, stressing that the road was strategic to the socio- economic development of the country.

He assured that the contractors handling the Tese-Moshegada and Moshegada- Kisi sections would soon be mobilized to site, by the state government, to ensure that the road project meets the 2020 completion target.

Dr Ahmad equally urged Duravil Engineering Company, handling the 33km Kaiama- Tease section of the road project to accelerate its pace of work,especially during dry season, to reduce hardship being encountered by motorists plying the route.

He commended the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, Governor Abdul Fatah Ahmed and other stakeholders in ensuring that work resumes on the 64 Kilometres project, flagged off, in November 2014.

In their remarks, the Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Works and Transport, Alhaji Garuba Manjo, the Consultant, and contractor handling the project assured that work had fully resumed on the road project in which over N1bn had so far been paid, stressing that the state government was committed towards ensuring early completion of the federal project

The Controller of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency in the state Engr Omotayo Awosanya, while assuring that his agency would ensure close monitoring of the project,disclosed that the federal government would soon award Kaiama – Niger state boundary and Kaiama- Kosubosu road projects to fast track socio – economic transformation of the area.

Members representing Kaiama/Kemanji/ Wagibe and Adena/Gwanabe/Bani Constituencies, Hon Ahmed Ibn Mohammed and Hon Suleiman, Baziki and the chairman of Kaiama local government council Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar, while applauding the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki and Governor Abdul Fatah Ahmed over the project , thanked the Senate President on behalf of the community even as they asked him to further allocate funds for the project in the 2018 federal budget.

Earlier, the chairman of the House Committee on Energy,Works and Transport,Hon Mathew Olaitan Babaoye,assured the people of Kaiama that the House would be carrying out periodic oversight functions to ensure speedy execution of the project.

Hon Babaoye, while promising that the House would not allow the contractor to compromise standard,enjoined the people of Kaiama to continue to exercise patient, while the project lasted.

The legislators later paid homage to the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Mauzu Shehu Omar who expressed delight over the oversight visit of the law makers.
