… Winner To Take Home Less Than Half Of Massive Sum
After no winning tickets were drawn on Wednesday night, the Mega Millions Powerball jackpot lottery increased to $700 million on Thursday, making it the 10th largest lottery prize in history. However, the winner would only receive less than half of that enormous figure after taxes.
The Powerball numbers for Wednesday were 31-43-58-59-66 and the Powerball was 9. Power play was 2X.
On Wednesday, February 1, when no one successfully combined all five numbers with the Powerball, the jackpot rose to a staggering $700 million. The big prize initially exceeded $600 million this week and quickly climbed to the present number in only a few days. After Wednesday’s rollover, the sum was the tenth-highest prize in American history. The previous record-holder for that was a single ticket bought in California that won the $699.8 million jackpot on October 4, 2021.

Recall, the Powerball jackpot wasn’t won by anyone who got all six numbers right on the February 1 draw. Two $1 million winning tickets had all five numbers correct, but not the Powerball. Both were bought, one in Florida and the other in North Carolina.
However, one lucky ticket sold in Massachusetts hit $31 million jackpot in the Mega Millions lottery drawing on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023. It was the second time in recent weeks that the Mega Millions jackpot has been hit in that state.
