NYC blows hot as Empire State Building lights up in support of rivals Philadelphia Eagles

The Empire State Building was illuminated in Eagles colors on Sunday, but the mayor of New York City now acknowledges that it may not have been the finest choice.

Following a 31–7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon, the Eagles secured their position.

When discussing the controversy over the Empire State Building’s green illumination in favor of the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, Mayor Eric Adams acknowledged some error. After the Eagles defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game on Sunday, the building’s lights were changed to the color of the opposing team. The tweet received a lot of negative feedback on social media.

After a picture of the Empire State Building’s tower lights in green and white was shared to its Twitter account on Sunday with the phrase “Fly Eagles Fly,” social media went into a full frenzy.
On Twitter, the New York Giants stated that they were only there for the remarks.

Joining in, the NYC Department of Buildings tweeted: “How are we going to explain this to all of the other buildings. They looked up to you.”

The New York Giants’ postseason run was ended by the Eagles’ victory against them one week earlier. Many Giants supporters expressed shock that their opponent was being honored in the city’s most recognizable structure.

According to NJ.COM, New York City Mayor Eric Adams was asked on Monday’s “CNN This Morning.” Per TMZ Sports“Unfortunately,” he said, “someone did not get the memo at the Empire State Building.”

“That got away from us,” Adams said. “The way the Eagles game got away from us with the Giants, we should have lit up in real symbolism the colors of the Giants. That blue should have been there.”

He added, “Unfortunately, someone did not get the memo at the Empire State Building, but we want to see good sportsmanship. The Giants will be back next year, and the Jets will be back. We’ll be excited when they rebuild their teams.”

The New York City Sanitation Department’s official Twitter account posted, “For anyone who finds this as treacherous, traitorous, and unforgivable as we do – just pretend it’s green and white for #NewYorksStrongest,. We take out the trash every day…and next year, that’ll include the Eagles.”

The Empire State Building’s Twitter account or outside lighting system may have been hacked on Sunday, according to New York Giants supporters. They weren’t; the famous structure in the middle of Manhattan was in fact lit in green and white in support of the Philadelphia Eagles.
