Man sentenced to 25 years imprisonment after stabbing his ex-girlfriend 18 times

On March 16, 2023, the Metropolitan Police released a statement regarding the sentencing of Robin Ibrahim, a 28-year-old man who was found guilty of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. The incident in question took place on June 28, 2021, in east London, where Ibrahim had lured his ex-girlfriend to a high street in Hornchurch under the pretense of returning a substantial sum of money he owed her.

When the victim arrived at the agreed-upon meeting place, Ibrahim attacked her with a knife, stabbing her 18 times in a frenzied and sustained assault. It was only thanks to the quick intervention of members of the public, including the victim’s sister, that Ibrahim was apprehended and the victim was saved from further harm.

The victim was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and underwent emergency surgery. Despite the severity of her wounds, she managed to survive the brutal attack and has since been discharged from the hospital. However, the psychological and emotional impact of the incident is likely to stay with her for some time.

Following his arrest, Ibrahim was charged and convicted of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. On Friday, March 10, 2023, he was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment at Basildon Crown Court.

Throughout the trial, the court heard how Ibrahim had lured his ex-girlfriend to the high street under false pretenses, knowing full well that he intended to harm her. The fact that he brought a weapon with him suggests that the attack was premeditated and that Ibrahim had given careful thought to how he would carry out his plan.

The investigating officer from the East Area’s Public Protection team, Detective Constable Ollie Jones, praised the victim for her bravery and resilience throughout the ordeal. He also commended the members of the public who intervened and detained Ibrahim until the police arrived on the scene.

Jones highlighted the dangers of domestic violence and urged anyone who is experiencing abuse or who knows someone who is to come forward and report it to the police. He emphasized the importance of taking such incidents seriously and providing support to victims to help them recover and move on with their lives.

The sentencing of Ibrahim is a reminder of the severity of domestic violence and the impact it can have on its victims. It also highlights the need for greater awareness and understanding of the issue, as well as the importance of taking action to prevent such incidents from occurring in the first place.
