Collaborative Effort between Tracker SA and SAPS Middelburg Flying Squad Leads to Recovery of Hijacked Truck and R1.3 Million Worth of Cargo, Six Suspects Apprehended
Tracker SA, a leading vehicle tracking company, and the South African Police Service (SAPS) Middelburg Flying Squad have joined forces to successfully recover a hijacked truck and its valuable cargo worth R1.3 million.
According to reports, the truck was hijacked in the early hours of Wednesday, March 1, 2023, on a major highway in Middelburg, Mpumalanga province. The hijackers reportedly forced the driver and his assistant out of the vehicle at gunpoint before making off with the truck and its contents.
Fortunately, the truck was fitted with a GPS tracking device by Tracker SA, which enabled the company’s control center to monitor its movements and alert the SAPS Middelburg Flying Squad of its location.
The SAPS team quickly responded to the alert and launched a coordinated operation to recover the hijacked truck. After a brief pursuit, the hijackers abandoned the truck and fled on foot. However, the SAPS Middelburg Flying Squad was able to apprehend six suspects believed to be involved in the hijacking.
Thanks to the quick actions of Tracker SA and the SAPS Middelburg Flying Squad, the hijacked truck and its valuable cargo were recovered and returned to their rightful owners. The six suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine their involvement in the hijacking.
This successful operation is a testament to the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of South Africa’s citizens and businesses. It also serves as a warning to would-be hijackers that their criminal activities will not be tolerated, and they will face the full force of the law.
