The Gubernatorial candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Shuaibu Yaman was the first to propose the idea of converting College of Education (Technical) to a full time University, the media wing of the gubernatorial candidate, Yaman Media Assembly has disclosed.
The media group in a statement revealed how the Institution enrolment has suffered decline in recent time.
“As contained in the manifesto of the PDP Gubernatorial candidate, the conversion of the College to the University will fiist require an enactment by the State Assembly, before bringing Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) on board for accreditation of courses, and other requirements.
“During moment of brainstorming, part of the issues that were raised is the policy of the Federal Government that permits a single University of Science and Technology per geo-political zones in the country. It is pertinent to note that one is sited at Minna, Niger State; known as Federal University of Technology (FUTMINNA).” the group said.
According to the statement: “Among the commitment of the Alhaji Shuaibu Yaman was to scan available options to make the college a full time Medical College, full University of Education, or another complete State University since some Nigerian States have more than a single State-owned University.”
“Kwara Northerners must note that the conversion of the College to a Degree awarding institution doesn’t require special connection from the family of the Governor, but the provision of counterpart funding by Kwara State Government for take-off, and lobbying of Agencies such as TETFUND, PTDF, NCC and NEEDS Intervention of the Federal Government.
“Do not be misled by those who are trying to trick Kwara Northerners into voting for them. If they wanted to convert College of Education (Technical) in Lafiagi to a University, it should have started four years ago, and the Institution would have been prepared for take-off by now.” the group added.
