A Louisiana water treatment plant worker was arrested on multiple criminal counts after a video of him reportedly urinating in the city’s water supply went viral.
Although it’s unclear how frequently he urinated in the water supply, he was seen twice on camera peeing into a water tank.
As the video went viral on social media, the 57-year-old worker, Michael Mastin, was arrested last week in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
Two counts of tainted water supply and criminal damage to vital infrastructure have been brought against him.
“I am extremely disappointed, and I find this conduct disgusting and unacceptable,” Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment said. “This type of behavior will never be tolerated in parish government.”
Ascension Parish officials reportedly learned of Mastin’s actions shortly after March 22, according to the statement. An investigation was opened that same morning, and by afternoon, Mastin was terminated from his position, according to reports.
Mastin’s employment with the city was terminated after the allegations were verified.
Officials have reassured the public that the city’s drinking water has not been harmed, despite the unsettling nature of the footage.
