Nyesom Wike, the governor of River State, claims that he was sipping a 40-year-old whisky when Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, led protestors to the headquarters of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) in protest.

According to Atiku, the governor’s complaints about him had nothing to do with the southern presidency and were instead a result of his tragic loss. He applauded efforts to secure Wike’s visa ban in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Wike had said, “As they were protesting, I just sat down and took a 40-year whisky. I called some of my friends and opened the 40-year-old whisky as they were protesting.”

Amaechi asserts that Wike spends N50 million on alcohol each week and claims that the governor is preparing to run for a third term through Siminalayi Fubara, the PDP candidate for governor of the state.

Amaechi made this statement on Tuesday during a campaign stop for Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) nominee for governor of the state, in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area. The governorship and state house of representatives elections are scheduled for March 18, 2023.
