Video: Salon owner Nomaxabiso Xhotyeni says Thabo Bester walked into her salon with five women as “Thomas K Bester, CEO of MTV Base”

The salon owner Nomaxabiso Xhotyeni tells Sunday Times that she remembers the day Thabo Bester walked into her Table View hair salon in Cape Town with five young women, in April 2011, pretending to be “Thomas K Bester, CEO of TV channel MTV Base”.

Nomaxabiso Xhotyeni adds that meeting Facebook rapist Thabo Bester is not a day she can easily forget as “everything about that day was so dramatic”.

The Cape Town salon owner also tells the publication that Bester, who introduced himself as Thomas K Bester, CEO of TV channel MTV Base”, walked into her salon with five women, and tried to trick them into doing their hair without paying a cent.

In the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Nandipha Madugumana’s father, Zolile Sekeleni, was given a R10,000 bond. Nonetheless, Madugumana, Senohe Matsoara, and Teboho Lipholo will continue to be detained until their formal bail applications are considered on May 3 and 4.

At Mangaung Prison, Matsoara was a former G4S security guard, and Lipholo was a former employee of Integritron, the company that looks after the security cameras there. Both were at work the day the fire occurred.

At the closely watched courtroom, Madugumana wore a hoodie and a N95 mask to conceal her face. In order to identify her, the magistrate demanded that she take off the mask and reveal her face. Madugumana briefly removed her mask before re-putting it on while her Diba sought in vain to persuade the magistrate otherwise.

Although Lipholo hasn’t had a lawyer up to this point, Legal Aid will represent him.
