British boy, 16, found dead in a Thai forest as Police hunt for his missing girlfriend

Tragedy struck in Thailand as a British teenager, Woramet Ben Taota, was discovered lifeless in a forest, bearing head wounds. Authorities are now engaged in a frantic search for his missing girlfriend, Yam, who had accompanied him on a motorcycle ride in Lampang, his hometown, on Saturday but failed to return home.

Local law enforcement received distressing news on Sunday morning, notifying them of Ben’s lifeless body found in a grove within the Ban Than district. The teenager’s injuries suggested blunt force trauma, leading officers to suspect foul play. They noted the absence of his phone and cash from his shoulder bag, indicating a potential robbery. The absence of struggle at the scene led investigators to believe that Ben was killed and left in the woods. As of now, his partner remains missing.

Thai media reported that it was a garbage collector working on Sunday morning who stumbled upon Ben’s lifeless body. Authorities swiftly mobilized investigative teams from the Mae Tha Police Station and the Lampang provincial investigation team, accompanied by forensics officers, forensic medicine doctors, and personnel from the Tanna Krua Forest Rescue.

Describing the grim scene, Police Colonel Sittisak Singtongla, the superintendent of Mae Tha Police, stated that the deceased teenager was found leaning against a tree, clad in a black long-sleeved T-shirt and jeans. The body has been transported to the hospital for a thorough autopsy.

The focus of the investigation now centers on individuals closely associated with the victim, particularly his female companion, who is considered a crucial figure in this case as the last person known to have seen him alive. Ben’s mother, Ooy Taota, informed the police that her son bid her farewell on Saturday evening, mentioning that he was “going to work with friends,” without divulging further details. The parents of the missing girlfriend have made an emotional plea through the media to help locate their daughter.

Law enforcement authorities have refrained from ruling out any motives behind the crime, considering possibilities such as a love affair, personal conflict, or a work-related dispute. Police Colonel Sittisak emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing, and they have yet to reach a definitive conclusion. The absence of the deceased’s phone and cash raises questions about the true nature of the incident, as robbery alone may not fully explain the circumstances.

As Thai authorities delve deeper into this distressing case, their efforts to uncover the truth and bring justice to the grieving families intensify. The community eagerly awaits further developments, hoping for the safe return of the missing girlfriend and for answers that will shed light on this tragic event.
