Yesterday, many glamours accompanied the 50th year anniversary of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, at the institution’s permanent site, from public lecture themed “Raising the Bar for Excellence and Greatness” by Otunba Olusola Adekanola, FCA, FNIT, to the foundation laying of the Alumni Association’s proposed site and many more.

As an invited guest, the epochmaking celebration of 50 years of “Excellence”, again, gave me an opportunity of stepping my foot on the citadel of learning through which my higher education did not only kick off but also my leadership valour get sharpened, as a student leader who served in different capacities from National Diploma (ND) days up to serving as Students’ Union Government (SUG)’s Financial Secretary during Higher National Diploma (HND) days, 2010/2011 academic session precisely. Of course i transisted to Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, for B.Sc and MSc degrees respectively in a different field and they were honorably bagged but “Kwara Poly” as fondly called, remains the foundation.

During the event’s photo op session, i met Engr Adedoye and Mr Jiddah, the current HOD of the Mechanical Engineering and a former Ilorin Emirate Students’ Union President respectively and took photography with them separately. The regret I had was not having opportunity of snapping with my students’ unionism political leader and one of my predecessors in the SUG Financial Secretariat, ComradeKayode Akanbi OmoAlhaja aka “Ewe Waranja” who was to so engaged with Alumni Association and school management’s assignments that I could not even get to see him.

The event also afforded me an opportunity of branching at the root of my engineering knowledge, Institute of Technology (IOT), at the newly relocated IOT at the Kwara Poly’s main campus. Amongst some of my lecturers I met was Dr. (Engr) M. Zubair, my then Electrical Circuit Theory lecturer who is a former Head of our Department, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, former IOT Deputy Director and now Director of Research of the Polytechnic. Also, I met my oga from the Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Engr. G. Saad and others from other departments of the Institute. I also regreted not meeting our dearest oloffamojo HOD, Engr Mustapha Tajudeen Alhaji and other lecturers of my department.

Indeed, my heart was filled with joy for being a product of the centre of technological excellence and part of the celebration of the memorable event and I wish our own Kwara Poly and all of us, the alumni members long live and better prospects in the future.
