Titanic star Lew Palter, known for one of the film’s most heartbreaking scenes, dies from lung cancer aged 94
Isidor Straus, the industrialist played by Lew Palter in Titanic, passed away at the age of 94.
Palter, who had lung cancer, passed away on May 21 at his home in Los Angeles.
In a terrifying sequence from James Cameron’s 1997 film, he is best recognized for playing the husband who held his wife in bed as the ship sank.
Even though the shot lasts only a few seconds, it is regarded as one of the movie’s most sad scenes.
Isidor Straus and his wife did indeed perish aboard the ship, hence his persona was based on a real person.
With his brother Nathan, Straus shared ownership of Macy’s.
In the Supreme Court dramedy First Monday in October from 1981, the actor, who was born in New York, played Associate Justice Benjamin Halperin opposite Walter Matthau and Jill Clayburgh.
In addition, he had a faculty position at the CalArts School of Theatre.
He taught pupils who would go on to become well-known individuals, such as Cecily Strong, Don Cheadle, and Ed Harris, all of whom were nominated for awards.
In 2013, Palter ended his career as a teacher.
Palter also served as the director of numerous off-Broadway shows throughout his lengthy and diverse career.

Lew Palter Palter, who retired from teaching in 2013, also served as a tutor to young people who would later become well-known celebrities.
These included the 1987 film version of the Tom Topor drama Nuts for the Los Angeles Stage Company, starring Barbra Streisand.
His daughter Catherine Read Palter, whom he had with his wife and L.A. Law actress Nancy Vawter, is all that remains of the Steagle actor.
After 64 years of marriage, she unfortunately passed away in 2020.
Sam, Tessa, and Miranda Morgan, Palter’s three grandkids, are also left behind.
