Gas Explosion Rocks Paris, 29 Injured& 2 Missing (Video)
According to police, a fire triggered by an explosion in Paris has left at least 37 people injured and two persons missing.
Two structures, one of which housed a fashion school, were destroyed by the fire on Wednesday, according to emergency services.
The explosion occurred in a structure on Rue Saint-Jacques in the capital city of France that also served as the administrative center for the Catholic educational system and as home to a design school.
Florence Berthout, mayor of the arrondissement, said four people were in “absolute emergency” condition.
“The explosion was extremely violent,” she said, describing pieces of glass still falling from buildings.
According to the police, several of the injured were struck by both the blast’s force and flying debris. Gérald Darmanin, the interior minister, stated that on Wednesday night, rescuers were searching for two individuals among the debris.

After a building’s facade collapsed and the fire appeared to have spread to nearby structures, police advised people to stay away from the Val-de-Grâce neighborhood, which is close to the Pantheon and Luxembourg Gardens.
Gerald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, commented on the incident via Twitter.
“A fire is burning in rue Saint-Jacques in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. Firefighters are intervening Please do not interfere with their intervention and avoid the area.”
According to Theguardian.com, Police, fire crew and ambulance services were at the scene. Some 70 fire trucks and 270 firefighters battled the blaze.
The Paris prosecutor said an investigation was opened into aggravated involuntary injury and the inquiry would examine whether the explosion stemmed from a suspected violation of safety rules. Prosecutor Laure Beccuau said investigators would seek to “determine whether or not there was failure to respect a rule or individual imprudence that led to the explosion”.
At about 6.45pm local time, police said the fire was under control and that rescue work was continuing.
