A handcuffed man was repeatedly run over by a car carrying police officers in a now-viral video that TheCable saw.
It was discovered that the individual had been handcuffed by some Ekpoma division police officers because he had refused to let them look through his cell phone.
The officers have been detained, according to SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Edo State Police Command’s spokesman, who confirmed the incident in a press release on Friday.
The statement read in part: “Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it is aware of the trending video in the social media that shows some police officers with a Sienna vehicle used for police patrol that ran over a young man who was handcuffed.
The acting inspector general of police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, responded to a widely circulated video of a police officer engaging in flagrant misbehavior.
The IGP denounced the unsettling incident that occurred on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Ekpoma, Edo State, in which a police squad ran a car over a resident.
