On a quiet Wednesday evening in November, Hans Schmidt, a 26-year-old street preacher, stood on a corner near 51st and Peoria Avenues, doing what he loved – sharing his faith with passersby. Little did he know, his life would be forever altered in a matter of seconds.
New footage has been released by the Glendale Police Department in the ongoing hunt for the gunman who shot revered religious figure Hans Schmidt last month while he was preaching on a corner at a major junction.
Surveillance footage captured the chilling moment a vehicle approached the intersection. The driver stopped momentarily, then rolled down the window and pointed a gun directly at Schmidt. Without warning, a shot rang out, echoing through the otherwise peaceful street.
Schmidt, caught completely off guard, stumbled back and fell to his knees. Passersby watched in stunned silence as the vehicle sped away, leaving the wounded preacher sprawled on the sidewalk.
The married father of two, Schmidt, was taken in critical condition to the hospital. He had a protracted and difficult rehabilitation after undergoing numerous surgeries.. Despite the physical and emotional trauma, he remained steadfast in his faith and vowed to continue preaching.
