The State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Comrade Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode known as Greatkay has assured that if returned to power, his party would pay improved attention to education by allocating more funds to develop the sector and adequately motivate the teachers in the state.
He equally pledged that the PDP government would improve and expand access to vocational education by revitalising technical schools across the state, ensuring that they are adequately equipped and staffed.
Greatkay gave these assurances during the Freshers’ Orientation and executive inauguration programme organised by the National Association of Kwara state students (NAKSS), in collaboration with Ilorin Emirate Students’ Union (IESU), Muyideen College of Education chapter which was held at the College auditorium yesterday, 10th January, 2024.
The Kwara PDP Secretary, while admonishing the students to work hard for impressive grades in their studies, also urged them to develop themselves by acquiring entrepreneurial and digital skills that will guarantee them self-reliance after school and not turn to seekers of government’s jobs that have become so scarce.
He went further to not only say goverment job openings are limited during APC’s administration but also berate the government for sacking thousands of sunset teachers that it could have either trained and retrained to be better or seconded to other sectors of the government where they could perform excellently.
The leading opposition party’s scribe reminisced about how previous PDP administrations encouraged youth inclusion in governance by sourcing for and engaging quality young Kwarans “in their 20s and early 30s as Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, LG Youth Empowerment Coordinators (YECs), Local Government Liason Officers (LOs) and many others.”
He proceeded by encouraging them to take advantage of the #NottooYoungtoRun bill passed into law by Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki (CON) led 8th Senate, which was introduced to open up decision making process to accommodate younger people and ensure they partake in the process in their respective localities.
Greatkay, who was in company of the party’s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Olusegun Olusola Adewara Sholyment, after making cash donation to the students’ unions, said it’s an established fact that APC has failed the people in the state and that PDP, having realized some of the areas it could have done better when in government, promised more patronages to organized private sectors, private institutions and their students and other sectors of governance.
