Iftar: Saraki Directs His Gates to Remain Open as Breaking of Fast Continues in His Absence

In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, President of the 8th Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has directed that his residence in his country home, Ilorin, should remain open to members of the public for Iftar (breaking of Muslim fast) even after his departure.

The former Senate President had been playing host to different strata of citizens for prayers and Iftar since he arrived in Ilorin on Monday, 11th March 2024, the first day of the 30 days of fasting.

Those who have visited include religious leaders, community leaders, party faithful, nonpolitical individuals and business owners, and youth and women groups.

Others are artisanal groups, market men and women, non-governmental organizations, and media personnel among others. The guests also cut across the three Senatorial zones of Kwara State.

Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, Press Officer on Local Matters to the former Senate President, in a press release, on Monday, 17th March 2024, said his principal has directed that the breaking of the fast be continued till the end of the holy month, even in his absence.

According to him, Saraki is billed for other engagements outside Ilorin and will be traveling for this purpose. This, however, does not put a stop to the Iftar sessions at his residence, as he has directed that it must continue even in his absence.

This he said is in fulfillment of the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (SAW), “May the fasting people break fast at your place, and may the pious eat from your food, and may the angels pray for you.”

Saraki emphasized that “Ramadan is a time of sharing and breaking bread together, and must continue among Muslim faithful and others.

“This has become more essential at this period of economic hardship, to ensure that despite the odds, we all observe the fast and enjoy the privilege of a meal for Iftar.”

The Waziri Ngeri thanked those who have honoured his invitation since the commencement of the holy exercise and prayed to Allah to grant all their supplication.

He further charged the people to continue to pray, show love and love in peace, as “we diligently strive to make Kwara and Nigeria better.”
