Igbo Traders: AbdulRahman Abdulrasaq must stop oppressive tax regime in Kwara State – Kwara PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemns in the strongest possible terms the oppressive and unjust taxation policies being implemented by the Kwara State Government under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak. The recent outcry from the Igbo Traders in Kwara State under the aegis of Kwara Igbo Traders Association (KWAITA ) against these egregious measures underscores the magnitude of discontent and economic hardship faced by businesses across the state.
The party is thereby requesting the Kwara State Government to immediately revert back to the mutually beneficial tax and tax collection system introduced by the PDP government of Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed since 2015.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak’s administration has shown a blatant disregard for the economic well-being of its citizens by burdening them with exorbitant taxes at a time when businesses are already reeling from the devastating effects of the subsidy removal and other socio-economic challenges. Instead of providing support and relief to struggling entrepreneurs, the government has chosen to exacerbate their plight through its exploitative tax regime.
It is unconscionable that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak remains silent in the face of mounting grievances from the business community, particularly the Igbo traders who have long been integral to the economic vibrancy of Kwara State. His failure to acknowledge and address their legitimate concerns several weeks after their first open protest reflects a dereliction of duty and a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the people of Kwara.
The PDP calls on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak to immediately halt the implementation of these oppressive tax policies and instead focus on initiatives that stimulate economic growth, create job opportunities, and alleviate the suffering of the people. His silence on this matter is not only deafening but also indicative of a leadership void that threatens the prosperity and stability of Kwara State.
Furthermore, we demand transparency and accountability in the utilization of tax revenues to ensure that they are directed towards projects and programs that benefit the welfare of the people, rather than serving the interests of a select few. The mismanagement and misallocation of public funds under the guise of taxation must be brought to an end, and those responsible held accountable for their actions.
The PDP stands in solidarity with the Igbo Traders Association and all other marginalized groups in Kwara State who are standing up against oppression and injustice. We will continue to champion their cause and hold the Kwara State Government accountable for its actions until justice is served and the rights of all citizens are respected and protected.
Signed:
Abdullahi Kayode,
State Secretary,
Kwara PDP.
