The government of the United Arab Emirates has said that this is the most quantity of rain to fall in the previous 75 years. The heavy rains caused key roadways to flood and flights at Dubai International Airport to be disrupted.

The rain was described as “a historic weather event” by the state-run news agency WAM, surpassing “anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949.” That was before to the discovery of crude oil in this very energy-rich country, which at the time was a part of the Trucial States, a British protectorate.

The rain started late on Monday and, according to meteorological data gathered at Dubai International Airport, soaked the dunes and roads of Dubai with about 20 millimeters (0.79 inches) of rain. Tuesday morning at approximately nine in the local time, the storms picked up additional strength and continued to pour more rain and hail on the already overburdened metropolis.

Water from pools swept over taxiways at the airport during airplane landings. Arrivals were eventually stopped by the airport on Tuesday night, and travelers had a difficult time getting to terminals since the surrounding roads were flooded.

Due to the inability of aircraft personnel to access the airfield, Dubai International Airport confirmed on Wednesday morning that there were “limited transportation options” and that this had an impact on flights.

Due to operational difficulties brought on by the constant rain, Emirates announced that it will be stopping passenger check-in at Dubai International on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until midnight.

The busiest airport in the world for foreign travelers verified that arrivals had stopped at around 3:30 pm GMT and then announced a “gradual resumption” more than two hours later.
