Group To Saraki: Well-Meaning Ilorin Indigenes Awaiting Your Presence At Durba Tomorrow, Ignore Pressure Not To Attend

A group of young people, who are indigenes of Ilorin and are members of the Ilorin Emirate Awareness Group,(IEAG) have condemned an attempt by members of Ilorin Emirate Council to mount pressure on the Waziri Ngeri of Ilorin, Dr Bukola Saraki and seek to make him stay away from the 2024 Durbar celebration in Ilorin, the state capital, tomorrow.

The said committee members had according to the group noted that they have made such a suggestion in order to save the state governor’s face.

The IEAG in a statement issued in Ilorin on Monday night by its chairman ,Mallam Abdulahi Yusuf said it will be unfair to ask the, highest title holder and former President of the Senate not to attend the event adding that the proponents of such an idea ought to have realized that it was not a thought-out proposition before spewing out what it described as ludicrous suggestion.

The group also noted that no one can lay the blame for the governor ‘s growing unpopularity and poor approval rating at Saraki’s door and it would be unfair and against natural justice to make him bear the brunt.

The statement urged Saraki not to bow to pressure but rather remain resolute and ensure that he attends the programme tomorrow as failure to do so will leave many people disappointed.

The group also urged him not let the well-meaning Kwarans down.

‘ The governor has led an unorganized administration since 2019 and they have continued to run affairs of state in a haphazard manner and people don’t want to associate with the administration anymore despite spending millions for them through social investment programmes. The governor’s approval rating has become discouragingly low. Was it Saraki that asked him to demolish shops and house during this period when people are facing economic hardship?

Was it Saraki that asked him to embark on renovation of Kwara hotel with 17billion naira at a time people are looking for what to eat?

Why should Saraki be made to bear the brunt?

Saraki is an illustrious son of Ilorin and Why should anyone put pressure on him to stay away from an important event being organized by his community?

It will definitely be ungodly to make such a suggestion.

Why would a governor be afraid of being outshone by one of his predecessors?

Was it Saraki that made people chorus ‘Sai Saraki’ at eid praying ground and ignore the governor? No, people are simply not happy with the current administration in the state but why should Saraki be the one to bear the brunt? ‘ the group added.

The IEAG also said many people are awaiting Saraki’s presence at the event and he should therefore not bow to pressure to stay away.
