Attack on Saraki’s Family Residence: Kwara PDP Accuses Police Of Official Complicity

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP yesterday accused security officials of providing protection for political thugs who unleashed mayhem and violence at Agbaji, the ancestral home of the Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

The thugs who are allegedly working for the factional governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC on Kwara, attacked the family residence of the Senate President at Agbaji, Ilorin.

The hoodlums reportedly injured at least 11 people, who are supporters of Dr Saraki and also damaged more than 50 vehicles within the community.

This ugly development is coming few days after a coordinated attack on PDP members at Adeta area of Ilorin Thursday, which left scores critically injured with some of them still receiving treatment at the hospitals.

Reacting to the incessant attacks, the Director General of the Kwara PDP Campaign Organization, Prof Sulyman Abubakar, while addressing a Press Conference, condemned the spate of violence which he said was happening “under the supervision of some policemen in uniform.”

“As I am talking to you, 25 people mostly PDP members are lying critically injured in several hospitals,” Prof. Sulyman said on the aftermath of Thursday’s attack.

“The APC hoodlums under the supervision of some people in police uniform, raided the same areas, carted away property, destroyed vehicles and shot at innocent lives” he said regarding Sunday’s attack on Agbaji.

Prof. Sulyman described the “ugly development” as a premeditated attempt to intimidate members of the PDP and by extension Kwarans, ahead of the 2019 general elections. He however, noted that the Kwara PDP remains resolute and unfazed.

“The Peoples of Kwarans are set for the 2019 elections, we are peaceful people and PDP will not be deterred by this act of banditry by the APC members,” he declared.

He also urged members of the party, to remain calm while also calling on the security agencies to speedily apprehend and summarily prosecute the culprits.
