Civil servants will get full allowances Jan – Labour minister

Dr Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, while fielding questions from journalists on Thursday has stated that federal civil servants will be paid in full by January as soon as President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) approves the payment.
He stated that, contrary to rumors that the Federal Government was considering raising civil servant salaries, the true position was that federal civil servants’ allowances would be paid in full as soon as Buhari approved the payment.
He stated that the idea of paying allowances to federal civil servants was tempered as part of measures to mitigate the effects of the country’s current economic hardship.
The minister revealed that the ministry had tabulated the workers’ allowances and sent them to the President for approval.
He claims that the decision regarding worker compensation and salary increases is not one that can be made in a vacuum because any salary adjustments must first be discussed at a roundtable between the federal government and the employees’ union.
