25-Year-Old K-POP Sensation, Moonbin, Discovered Deceased in His Apartment

South Korean K-POP artist Moonbin, who was a member of boy band Astro and its sub-unit Moonbin and Sanha, has been found dead in his apartment at the age of 25, according to reports from South Korean police. Moonbin was discovered by his manager at his home in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on April 18 at 8.10 pm, after he failed to show up for rehearsals.

Moonbin, born as Moon Bin, was part of the original lineup for Astro and made his debut with five other singers in 2016. He was not only a talented singer but also an actor, dancer, and model. Some of Astro’s most popular hits include “Candy Sugar Pop,” “All Night,” “Crazy Sexy Cool,” and “Blue Flame.”

Fantagio Music, Astro’s record label, released a statement on the artist’s death on their Instagram page. “On April 19th, Astro member Moonbin suddenly left us and became a star in the sky,” they said. “Although it cannot be compared to the grief of the bereaved families who lost their beloved sons and brothers, the Astro members who have been with us for a long time, as well as our Fantagio fellow artists and executives, are deeply mourning the deceased in great sadness and shock.”

Moonbin had taken a hiatus in 2019 due to health-related reasons but made a comeback with the group in 2020. He recently released a new album with fellow Astro star Sanha, titled “Incense,” on January 4. The duo was scheduled to perform in Macau on Saturday, but the event has now been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the event promoter Lumina Entertainment.

Moonbin was also the older brother of K-pop girl group star Moon Sua, of Billie. His funeral was held quietly with his family, friends, and colleagues in attendance. The sudden news of his death has left the K-POP industry and fans in mourning.
