Tuesday morning about 8am, voting for the presiding officers of the 10th National Assembly began in both of its houses.
The contest was now between Akpabio, a former minister of Niger Delta Affairs and ex-governor of Akwa Ibom State, and Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State.
However, Senator Akpabio is already been congratulated by other senators. Akpabio was able to get 63 votes out of 109 votes cast.
Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, has been chosen as the Senate President of the 10th Assembly.
At the Red Chamber in Abuja, Nigeria, voting had already started.
At precisely 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, voting got under way alphabetically by state.
At precisely 09:15, the polls closed.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is led by Akpabio and Yari at the highest levels. Previously, the former governor of Zamfara objected to the party’s endorsement of the former minister and requested that the endorsement be reevaluated, but the APC did not change its position.
The session is being presided over by National Assembly Clerk Sani Tambuwal, who is present in the Senate Chamber. The clerk has made a nominations request.
Ali Ndume, the senator-elect for Borno South, proposed Godswill Akpabio, the senator-elect for Akwa Ibom North-East, to be the Senate’s president. The nomination was accepted by Akpabio. While Abdulaziz Yari, senator-elect for Zamfara West, was proposed by Elisha Abbo, senator-elect for Adamawa North.
