In the video, Senator Bulkachuwa, who will leave the Senate when he reaches the obligatory retirement age of 70, boasted about how he made decisions for his wife and was happy of it.
Senator Bulkachuwa, who represents the Bauchi North senatorial district, made a rather unsettling revelation about how he used his influence to persuade his wife, Rtd. Justice Bulkachuwa, to render judgment in his favor or those that serve the interests of his friends during a farewell ceremony for departing senators of the 9th National Assembly on Monday, which was presided over by Senate President Ahmed Lawan.
After reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70 for justices of the Appeal Court in 2020, Bulkachuwa stepped down from the bench.
The first female president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Bulkachuwa (Rtd. ), was instrumental in selecting the electoral tribunal’s judges to hear complaints arising after elections.
“Particularly my wife, whose freedom and independence I encroached upon when she was in office, and she has been very tolerant and accepted my encroachment and extended her help to my colleagues,” Bulkachuwa said in the video before he was interrupted by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan.
Professor Ndubuisi Ekekwe shared the video on his Twitter handle on Monday, said, “we must give Senator Bulkachuwa a national award as a whistleblower of the month.”
