Photos: Police Rescue Nine Girls Used As Sx Slaves, Arrest Hotel Owner In Anambra

Nine girls, ages 15 to 25, who were being used as slaves in a hotel in Awka have been freed by the Anambra State Police command, who has also arrested the property’s owner.


The girls admitted to having been taken away from the states of Ebonyi, Enugu, Akwa-Ibom, and Rivers, the police stated in a release on Monday.

The press release read in part: “Following the information received from Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare yesterday 18/6/2023 by 6:00 pm, Police Operatives stormed a hotel in Awka and rescued 9 girls within the age bracket of 15-23 years, used as  slaves, and arrested the proprietor of the hotel.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, the girls who were rescued confessed that the people who took them to the brothel had promised to give them jobs to get them out of poverty and to take care of their parents and other dependents.

“The girls further confessed to  have brought from Ebonyi, Enugu, Akwa-Ibom, and Rivers states. Also, the Police command is in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare to ensure that the girls are taken care of and safely returned to their parents/guardians”, Ikenga said.

“We urge the good people of Anambra to continue to provide the police with information about such places as the joint operations to weed such places of bad people has commenced. Be assured that all information passed to the police shall be treated with utmost confidentiality, ” he added.
