Yevgeny Prigozhin, the commander of a mercenary group, was charged of armed mutiny by Russia on Friday after he claimed—without offering any proof—that the military leadership had killed a large number of his troops in an airstrike and threatened to punish them.

The probe comes in response to Prigozhin’s comments, in which he claimed—without offering any proof—that the leadership of the Russian military was to blame for the deaths of 2,000 fighters.

Late on Friday, Prigozhin warned against resistance from the army and threatened to use armed force to punish Shoigu.

In addition, Prigozhin released a video that he claims depicts the events following the rocket attack on a Wagner camp in southern Russia’s Rostov region.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is aware of the footage, according to a Kremlin official.

“President Putin has been informed of all the events around Prigozhin. Necessary measures are being taken,” the spokesperson said.

In Russia’s war in Ukraine, the Wagner troops were instrumental in capturing Bakhmut, the city where the bloodiest and longest fights had taken place. However, Prigozhin has been more critical of the Russian military leadership, charging them with inefficiency and depriving his soldiers of weapons and ammo.

President Vladimir Putin appeared to be facing the worst internal crisis since he authorized a full-scale invasion of Ukraine during the stalemate, many of whose details remained unclear.

According to Abcnews.go.com, Prigozhin has denied this is a “military coup” calling it a “march for justice.”

“They neglect the lives of soldiers, they forgot the word ‘justice,’ and we will return it,” Prigozhin said in the video. “Therefore, those who destroyed our guys today, and tens of thousands of lives of Russian soldiers, will be punished.”

Prigozhin stated he controlled 25,000 fighters and that with them, “we are going to figure out why the chaos is happening in the country” in what amounted to a virtual declaration of war against his adversaries in the Russian military.

“Anyone who wants should join. We need to end this mess,” he said.

“Everyone who will try to resist, we will consider them a danger and destroy them immediately, including any checkpoints on our way. And any aviation that we see above our heads,” he added.
