National Assembly should be blamed for poor flood control — Group

In the event of a flood calamity, Nigerians should hold the country’s parliamentarians accountable, according to a group operating under the auspices of Critical Stakeholders.

The group urges the nation’s parliamentarians to assist in addressing the looming flood problem because it believes the National Assembly can do much more to help avert flood tragedies across communities in the country.

The group’s request follows one from Amnesty International requesting the Federal Government to take immediate action to prevent a repeat of last year’s flash flood, which claimed more than 612 lives nationwide.

It follows a similar request from the Good Governance Initiative, a civil society group, which criticized President Bola Tinubu for asking the National Assembly to amend the 2022 supplementary appropriation act to include N500 billion to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal.
