KWARA PDP YOUTHS PASS CONFIDENCE VOTE ON BABATUNDE MUHAMMED-LED STATE EXCO

Members of the Youth Advisory Council of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hereby pass a vote of confidence on the State Executive Committee and also express our support for its members, particularly in their decision to suspend the State Youth leader, Prince Haliru Dantosho, for gross misconduct and wilful violation of the guidelines and constitution of the party, despite his status as a key member of the state executive council.

The Youth Advisory Council believes that for our party to achieve sustainable restructuring process that is based on strict adherence to party guidelines and respect for the provisions of the party constitution, among other factors, leaders and members should be law abiding and not compromise due process.

Today, we are passing a vote of confidence on the leadership of the party in the state because of the process initiated by the state executive. We also endorse the decision of the party leadership on the handling of the misunderstanding which the suspended youth leader created and has been stoking for some time now. We will like to also express our satisfaction with the membership of the Disciplinary Committee constituted by the leadership. Members of the committee have handled their assignment dilligently in line and made appropriate recommendations in the Daniyan case. We further commend the team for a job well done.

The Constitution of the party is clear and unabigious on the matter at hand. Article 9 of the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party contains the “Code of Conduct” and its Section 9.1 Sub Section (n) states clearly that:

“No member of the party shall bring to the public attention disagreement and conflicts within the party unless expressly authorised to do so”. Article 21 of the same Constitution also provides for “Offences and Punishment” and Section 21.1 Subsection (i) provides that:

“Any member who engages in unauthorised publicity to cause disputes within the party or create parallel party organ at any level” has committed punishable offence and “Indefinite suspension” as applied in this case is one of the recommended punishment for the offence in the party Constitution.

The Youth Advisory Council have gone to the extent of quoting relevant laws of the party in order to demonstrate that the vote of confidence it passed on the leadership on this issue and the solidarity support it expressed to the party leadership is not borne out of grudges or political differences we may have against any one. It is a mere commendation given to the party leadership that has demonstrated readiness for true restructuring and progress of the party.

On a final note, we wish to appeal to the leadership of the party to consider a replacement for Daniya as a matter of urgency as the activities relating to youths in the party have since seized. We give kudos to all Youth leaders from the Senatorial, Local Government Areas and electoral Ward levels who have always been up and doing by tworking hard to cover the unfortunate lacuna created by the inefficiency of the state Youth Leader’s office. The wait is long enough and the time to match on is now.

God bless our leaders!
