Continuation of the summarized autobiography of a resilient youth

The year 2006!

A year after he left secondary school, vibrant Kayode therefore chose Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin (KWARAPOLY), as his next deliberate step in engineering knowledge seeking by sitting for and passing the then popular Poly JAMB before JAMB’s exams were unified into UTME.

After securing admission in 2006 to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering at KWARAPOLY’s Institute of Technology (IOT) located at the same premises with the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)’s Mini Campus, Agbo-Oba, Ilorin, his father directed him to go and live with his nephews who were students of Unilorin earlier, so he could have a newer perspective of life from a different angle.

So his journey from Pakata to Agbo-Oba, a community in Badari ward of Magajin nGeri constituency of Ilorin West LGA, began. As providence would have it, the young Kayode lived in the community for good ten(10) years, 2006 to 2016, spanning his schooling and post-schooling period and he, consciously, considers Agbo-Oba, as his second comfort zone, after Pakata.

The ability to communicate with the young and elderly was put to use when he became the Social Director II of the Ilorin Emirate Students’ Union, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin Chapter – 2007/2008 Session.

The passion to galvanize mates to have a common ground and have a better student – lecturer relationship has brought him into student level politics, he eventually became the Financial Secretary of Students’ Union Government (SUG), Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin – 2010/2011 Session.

His electrical engineering interest made his stint as a 2007 Sept-Dec Student Industrial Working Experience Scheme (SIWES) intern was a memorable one at the former NEPA (Now IBEDC), Baboko, where he excelled in the rehabilitation of the 11KV network, the first for any SIWES student in the history of the service.

Kayode exhibited his communication skill while honing his engineering interest at a telecommunication company, MULTILINKS TELEKOM, where he eventually led the customer care unit while still a member of the engineering team as an Industrial Training Attachee between January – September 2009.

The name GREAT was added to the appellate “Kay” when it was discovered that after a ghastly accident in the course of his 1-year industrial training, Kayode was still concerned about the welfare of the labourers in the written-off project vehicle while still bed-ridden!. One of the medical doctors at the hospital named him GreatKay.

It’s noteworthy that this brilliant dude graduated with Upper Credit GRA in his both National Diploma  and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.

He thus was made the SECRETARY GENERAL: Servicom NYSC Community Development Service (CDS), Warri South LGA, Warri, Delta State – Batch C 2011.

GreatKay made great strides in his service year, becoming the Project Manager of Tornado International Associates Limited (Engineering and Oil Services), Warri.

The innate interest to be part of the development of Kwara State made him to turn down a mouth-watering offer to remain in Warri.

Having a certification as a Certified Project Manager made him works across many lines of engineering projects across the nation as a consultant.

The focused Kayode also has proceeded to Kwara State University, Malete, where he graduated with BSc and MSc in Computer Science with Second Class Upper Division.

GreatKay’s political movements which started from following his father to political meetings through being a Social Director II of the IESU to becoming the Financial Secretary of the SUG led him to propose forming a community welfare and feedback Youth Organisation in 2010.

It should be noted that his leadership was accepted by many of his school mates, students from other tertiary institutions from Kwara state and young artisans from Kwara state, to join him in forming Kwara Legacy Frontiers, a Kwara state based youth mobilization, media and advocacy group. An organization of over one thousand vibrant members in their early 20’s and he still coordinates till date.

The young Greatkay has always shown his political finesse and core loyalty to a single brand of politics, Public Welfare, the Saraki way. This has been noticed by some major actors of major political parties in Nigeria and he has been brought into critical position to propel electoral positive values.
