Nigeria Police Reintroduces Tinted Glass Permit
Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, reminding vehicle owners that driving with tinted or darkened windows without a valid permit remains illegal.
In a statement released over the weekend, the Force clarified the distinction between personal fashion choices and vehicle compliance. While wearing tinted sunglasses or fashion accessories poses no issue, the use of tinted, shaded, or darkened car windows—including factory-fitted tints—is strictly regulated.
According to Section 3 of the Act, individuals have a maximum of 14 days from the date of vehicle purchase or importation to remove or replace tinted glass unless they have secured a tinted glass permit.
“Driving tinted? You need a permit. Walking tinted? You’re good,” the message reads, highlighting the legal contrast between personal attire and automobile regulation.
To ensure compliance, motorists are advised to apply for the necessary documentation via the official Nigeria Police website at possap.gov.ng.
The Force also encouraged citizens to “stay safe, stay stylish, and stay legal,” as it works to balance public safety with individual freedoms.
