Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor are three young tennis players whose lives become intimately entwined as teenagers before rejoining years later for a match between the two men, according to the teaser for Luca Guadagnino’s “CHALLENGERS” released by MGM on Tuesday.
The trailer for the sports comedy-drama features Zendaya as the tennis prodigy Tashi Duncan, who is noticed by Patrick (O’Connor) and Art (Faist).
The three start dating, but Tashi’s career is put on hold due to a serious leg injury she suffers while playing basketball. She marries Art and takes on the role of his coach in the years to follow.
Zendaya reportedly trained with tennis teacher and former player Brad Gilbert for three months, according to director Guadagnino. Gilbert contributed to the movie as a consultant as well. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, known for their work on “Bones and All,” were approached by Guadagnino and screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes to create the movie’s score.
