Missing Titanic sub found: No survivors after catastrophic implosion

According to authorities, the Titanic-tourist submarine that vanished on Sunday experienced a “catastrophic implosion,” killing all five people on board as it descended to examine the fabled ship’s ruins.

Before the U.S. Coast Guard publicly announced that the Titan submarine had vanished, Navy-operated sensors presumably detected the submersible’s implosion.

The United States Coast Guard reported Thursday afternoon that the Titanic sank on Sunday, June 18, in the vicinity of Newfoundland, about 450 kilometers off the Canadian coast, in the northern section of the Atlantic Ocean.

Officials don’t yet seem to know exactly where or why the tourist sub imploded, despite the fact that it lost touch around 1 hour 45 minutes into its 2-hour dive and was discovered on the seabed around 1,600 feet from the Titanic’s bow.

The expedition that the Titan submersible and its crew embarked on was tremendously risky, according to industry experts and former passengers, the Guardian UK said.

The Titan was not registered as a vessel in the United States or with any international organizations in charge of safety. Additionally, it wasn’t classed by a body representing the maritime industry that establishes standards for things like hull design.

The Titan reportedly had to bear the strain of being nearly 4,000 meters (13,100 feet) below sea level.

It appears that the same deep-sea dynamics that make trips like it so uncommon are what led to Titan’s rapid end. It explains why fewer individuals than astronauts have visited the Titanic’s watery depths.

However, experts have questioned whether all necessary safety precautions were taken.
