Abdullahi Abdulrahman Kayode For Kwara PDP Secretary: A departure from the past and ushering a new dawn

By Abdulyekeen Mohd Bashir.

As a young man and a staunch advocate of youth inclusiveness in politics and decision-making, I found it soothing and relieving getting to know the aspiration of Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode to occupy the vacant Secretary position of the Kwara State PDP.

This news didn’t come as a shock because it was expected, as disciplines, job places, and positions of authority are manned by competent, intellectually sound minds for the effective discharge of duties and appropriate dividends of investment back to the society that made them.

GreatKay, as popularly known amongst the youth constituency to me should be a round peg in a round hole considering the state of our party, an opposition trying to unite the people to challenge a failed administration and regain power to further better the lives of the people and the State.

Without mincing words and not trying to sugarcoat, Abdulrahman’s wealth of leadership experience at a young age and his numerous positive precedence should be a thing all necessary stakeholders should put into consideration and clear him fit for the bigger benefit of the party and the people of our State.

Reading across social media platforms, I have come across solidarity epistles for aspirants and some aggressive and violent counters by various supporters of the aspirants, My advice to us all is that we should make this contest a healthy one for the progress of the party if truly we care and as well loyal to the leadership like we publicly portray ourselves. The world is changing, the corporate world, the traditional setting, and the informal and formal system are not left behind in this “youthful revolution” for effective representation, then why should that of the PDP Kwara be different?

This contest should not be seen as “Awon omo sekere vs. Awa agbalagba.” The parties concerned should not see this as youths challenging the old orders but see it as children wanting to advance a great course while the elders serve as a guide for better locomotion or mobility towards a better goal.

To my surprise, a section of the aspirants has taken it upon themselves to sectionalize and “rotationalize” this course, It’s widely known that State positions are zoned per LGs and not wards or state constituency zones, why will anyone who claims to be fighting for equity and fairness jettison the paramount factors in electing a representative then opt for sectionalism in the name of fairness.

I don’t know all those interested in the position but I do know GreatKay will protect the interest of the youths without sidelining the elders based on precedence and personal judgment, we might have our differences but restructuring the party and repositioning it as a viable platform to challenge the maladministration of the government and wrestle power from the clueless occupant of the GH should be a major priority and concern which are that of Abdullahi Abdulrahman Kayode.
