Ramadan: Saraki Visits Mosques, Supports Communities Across Kwara
As part of his annual tradition of spending time with the people during the holy month of Ramadan, former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has continued a series of community engagements across Kwara State, visiting mosques, supporting worship centres and providing assistance to residents in different communities.
During the period, the Waziri Ngeri of Ilorin undertook visits to several mosques in Ilorin and its environs, where he joined worshippers for prayers and offered support aimed at improving facilities within the mosques and surrounding communities.
Among the mosques visited were the Abayawo Central Mosque in Ilorin West Local Government Area; Imam Alfa Alore Mosque in Alore, Ilorin West; Imam Eyonbo Anabi Mosque in Ipata, Ilorin East; Alfa Agbade Mosque in Medina, Ilorin; Imam Hamza Mosque in Aiyegbami, Ilorin; and the Shao Central Mosque in Shao, Moro Local Government Area. Saraki also attended a Tafsir session hosted by Sheikh Sarafudeen Saadudeen Ajara in Ilorin.
At the various locations, Saraki provided support for mosque development and community welfare, including donations towards mosque funds, solar-powered lighting systems for mosques and surrounding areas, public address systems, and bags of food items for residents.
Community leaders and worshippers who received the former governor during the visits commended his continued presence among the people, noting that his acts of generosity and empathy have remained consistent over the years.
Observers say the outreach reflects the spirit of charity, compassion and community support that has long been associated with the Saraki family. The late patriarch, Olusola Saraki, was widely known for his deep connection with the people of Kwara and his extensive philanthropic activities. Many residents view the continued outreach by his son as a sustained legacy of service, one that has evolved and expanded over the years.
Although such interventions are a familiar feature of Saraki’s relationship with the people of the state, the activities often take on greater significance during Ramadan, a period that emphasises charity, reflection and compassion. Associates say the outreach is not seasonal, as Saraki regularly supports communities and individuals across the state throughout the year using personal resources.
His engagements during the Ramadan period also included hosting Iftar gatherings with Islamic scholars and community leaders, while also receiving Christian leaders who are observing the Lenten season. The interactions, participants said, reflected the shared values of sacrifice, reflection and love for neighbour that underpin both faith traditions.
Saraki’s philanthropic activities are also known to extend beyond the Muslim community. Christian leaders and groups in the state have often acknowledged his support during major Christian celebrations such as Christmas, Easter and the New Year period, describing his outreach as one that cuts across faith lines.
Residents in the various communities visited offered prayers for the former Senate President, expressing appreciation for what they described as his continued commitment to the welfare and development of the people of Kwara State.
End.
