Bester was incarcerated in the maximum security Mangaung Correctional Facility, run by the international corporation G4S, where he was serving a life sentence for rape and murder. On May 3, 2022, he was said to have set himself on fire and passed away in a prison cell.
Bloemfontein Correctional Prison, a public-private partnership institution run by security firm G4S, is responsible for running the jail.
According to Ground Up investigative reporter Oliver Meth, circumstantial evidence shows that three jail officials, two high ranking politicians, were involved prison escape of a convicted murderer and rapist named Thabo Bester.
Latest DNA tests have revealed that the body believed to belong to a serial sex offender was actually someone else.
Throughout his criminal career, Thabo Bester has utilized identities. He operated 21st Century Media under the name “Tom Motsepe,” and he asserted a relationship to businessman Patrice Motsepe.
Thabo Bester is a convicted murderer and rapist, and the Department of Correctional Services has asked anyone with information about his location to come forward since they believe he is “extremely dangerous.”
