After a six-week trial, a callous teenage girl who killed her infant baby when she was only 15 was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 12 years on Monday, June 26 at Worcester Crown Court.

Inflicting complicated skull fractures on the infant after giving birth in the living room of her parents’ house in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, in March 2019, Paris Mayo, now 19 years old, was found guilty of murder last week.

She shoved five pieces of cotton wool into his mouth, two of which were discovered deep in his throat, after the bone breaks, which were thought to have been brought on by her foot striking his skull.

Before going upstairs to bed, Mayo placed Stanley’s body in a trash bag and left it on their front porch.

According to reports, the murderer contacted her older brother George Mayo, asking him to dispose of a black bag that was filled with vomit from the previous night when he went outside.

The following morning, Mayo’s mother found his remains and phoned the police.

Mayo was described as a “pathetic and vulnerable individual,” “immature,” and unsupported by those in her immediate vicinity by her defense attorney, Bernard Richmond KC.

Before the judge gave the verdict, Mr. Richmond remarked: “When faced with a choice, she did not face it. By the time she had to, she had made a horribly, horribly bad choice.

This girl, who was 15 years old, was used by others around her and had no support.

When he was alive, Mayo’s father Patrick could be “emotionally cruel,” he said, adding that Mayo’s mother had been unable to stand seeing her daughter in the dock.

Ten days after Stanley was born, Mr. Mayo, who had a lot of health issues and was getting at-home dialysis upstairs in the home at the time his daughter gave birth, passed away.

‘Paris’s dad passed on the day before her first interview,’ Mr. Richmond continued. This will, in every meaning of the term, be a life sentence for her because it has been claimed that she also killed him. She will experience loneliness, isolation, and fear throughout this time.

Jonas Hankin KC made the case for the prosecution that baby Stanley’s murder was deliberate. He declared: “Paris Mayo definitely sought to stop the pregnancy or the baby’s existence from being discovered.

She took the choice to kill her kid rather than seek assistance from her father, mother, or the emergency services. Mr. Justice Garnham sentenced her to a minimum of 12 years in prison, calling the situation “sad and terrible.”

You did nothing to get ready for giving birth, he said. This experience terrified and traumatized you.It was undoubtedly terrible and difficult for you. It appears that you did not call out since you were so concerned to avoid waking up your parents upstairs.

You determined Stanley couldn’t live as soon as he was born, so you beat him around the head.I’m not sure how you managed to do this, but I believe you most likely trampled on his head with your foot. Although it undoubtedly did him great harm, Stanley was not killed in that attack.

He was still alive. You made the decision to kill Stanley by forcing cotton wool balls down his throat.

No of how challenging your situation may have been, killing your infant son was a truly despicable act.

Before being eligible for parole, Mayo, who sobbed as she was carried back to the cells, must serve at least 12 years.

Mayo had maintained her innocence of being pregnant throughout her trial.

Stanley was born in the summer of 2018, and by the fall, Mayo was experiencing nausea and back and abdominal agony, Worcester Crown Court had previously been told.

When arguing his case, Bernard Richmond KC questioned whether she had realized she was pregnant before giving birth to Stanley.

“No, I was always terrified of the possibility that I was.” I’d never taken a test before, Mayo admitted to the jury.

I wasn’t sure if I was suspicious, but I was more suspicious that I may have been.

“I would just try to justify to myself what I felt was wrong.” As I gained weight, I was concerned that I could be, but I tried to attribute it to other factors.

I was eating more frequently throughout the day and larger servings of food.

Was there a time before the birth when you told yourself, “I am pregnant,” as Mr. Richmond put it? And Ms. Mayo answered, “No.”

In the autumn of 2018, Mayo described her intermittent illness to the court, saying: “I think there were times when I was sick, but it would go back and come away – it was irregular.”

I believed I had a stomach virus that passed quickly or that I had eaten something unsuitable.
