The head of the MCIG in Gilan Province was fired after a video of his scandal with a young man was leaked online. The firing of Reza Seqati was a major scandal in Iran, and it highlighted the hypocrisy of some of the country’s religious leaders.
The uproar started when a video that purportedly showed Reza Seqati with a young male started making the rounds on social media.
The MCIG also plays a role in regulating cultural activities in Gilan Province. The ministry licenses cultural events and businesses, and it also has the power to shut down businesses or events that are deemed to be against Islamic values or the law.

In recent years, the MCIG has come under fire for its strict enforcement of Islamic dress codes in Gilan Province. The ministry has been accused of harassing women who do not wear the hijab properly, and it has also been accused of shutting down businesses that sell clothing that is considered to be immodest.
