A 38-year-old Tongaat Home Affairs official was shot six times during a drive-by shooting on Gopalall Hurbans Road in Tongaat on May 25. He is reported to have been a whistleblower and was scheduled to testify in a significant criminal case in a few days.

Witnesses gathered on Church Street, shocking the neighborhood when they saw an unidentified woman’s lifeless body laying there.

In the horrifying incident the woman was fatally shot moments after leaving Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.

The abrupt violence that occurred in front of witnesses’ eyes frightened them. The terrifying events were described by an unidentified bystander, who said that as the woman left the court, a car pulled up, and its occupants opened fire. Chaos broke out as individuals frantically sought shelter from the terrible situation as they fled for safety.

Sources claim that a manhunt is under way to track down the culprits accused of murdering the Department of Home Affairs employee who was scheduled to testify in a crucial criminal case in the coming days. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) members said that they were called to the area after numerous witnesses reported hearing gunfire on Thursday afternoon at a gray VW Polo.

“On arrival, RUSA members discovered paramedics from a private ambulance service examining the driver of the vehicle. The Department of Home Affairs employee sustained approximately six gunshot wounds to her body and one shot to her head. She was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram.

Malcolm Pojie who is the police spokesperson, confirmed the tragic shooting. Malcolm revealed that the Wynberg detectives are actively investigating the murder. The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. near the intersection of Church and Brodie Roads.
